Welcome to the web site of the union representing the faculty and academic staff at Wayne State University. You will find here information about the many activities we are engaging in on behalf of the faculty and academic staff. You also will find information about the governance of the union, the contract we have negotiated with the university on behalf of the bargaining unit, and our special programs for union members. We welcome feedback on our efforts from users of this web site.
In the several years since we have jointly affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), we have made much progress in our effectiveness as a union. The support of our sister unions in the Michigan AFL-CIO was a great help in our being able to reach a reasonable contract agreement in recent negotiations. Our membership in the AFL-CIO has involved us more deeply in state and national issues that affect our interests.
To be effective as a union, we must always remember that we are
here to further the cause of Wayne State University.
Our members provide the basis for the ongoing success
and future development of our institution. The statement
that "the University works because we do" is
more than a slogan. It is a fact. We must always think
of our commitment to our colleagues and of supporting
them as we all work to improve ourselves and the University
in its pursuit of its goals.
